Market Analysis Training Programme

Empowering Humanitarian Market Analysis at NRC

Background

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) recognized the critical need to bolster its staff's proficiency in conducting market analyses, essential for designing effective humanitarian interventions. To address this, NRC commissioned Atticmedia to develop a comprehensive curriculum aimed at equipping field staff with the necessary skills and knowledge for successful market assessments.

Our Solution

We collaborated closely with NRC to design and deliver a robust learning programme, which included:

  • Creative workshops to align on learning objectives
  • Instructional design tailored to learning principles
  • Copywriting and editing for clarity and engagement
  • User experience (UX) design and wireframing
  • Visual design, including illustrations and infographics
  • Development of animations to communicate complex concepts
  • Construction of interactive modules using Articulate Storyline

The curriculum was deployed on NRC's Humanitarian Leadership Academy’s (HLA) Kaya platform, built on Totara (an open-source Moodle-based system), ensuring accessibility and scalability across NRC's operations. The programme was launched in all 31 of NRC's country programmes in 2021.

Results & Impact

The training programme has significantly enhanced NRC staff's capabilities in conducting market analyses, leading to more informed decision-making in humanitarian response planning. By providing practical tools and methodologies, the curriculum has enabled staff to perform both rapid and in-depth market assessments, crucial for tailoring interventions to local contexts.

The programme's deployment across 31 countries has standardised market analysis practices within NRC, fostering a cohesive approach to data collection and interpretation. This uniformity ensures that interventions are based on reliable market data, ultimately improving the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian aid delivery.
