The Legula Adventure wins Silver at 2009 E-Learning Awards

Dear Friend,

It's been a while since we wrote to you with our news, so it's high time we dropped you a line. We're delighted that the Legula Adventure has just picked up an E-Learning Age award and has also been nominated for a children's BAFTA.

We have also just completed a project with the BBC World Service Trust which is changing the way people learn English in Bangladesh. It's called BBC Janala and its launch builds upon our growing portfolio of creative led e-learning approaches.

Our portfolio of arts and culture led work also continues to expand, including a new project now in development for the National Portrait Gallery. Our new website showreel captures what else we've been up to and now you can now follow us on Twitter too.

Do have a look at some recent highlights below, and if you want to find out more, or are simply interested in discussing some ideas, do feel free to email me.

All the best,

Mark Weber CEO

BBC Janala Launches in Bangladesh

The BBC World Service Trust has launched a major new initiative which is changing the way people learn English in Bangladesh, and in other communities of Bangladeshi origin worldwide.

The multi-platform media project provides high quality English learning tools across mobile, television and the internet to millions of people, many of whom live on less than £2 a day.

We were appointed to design the online BBC Janala brand, create the website designs and create and develop the brand guidelines.

We worked closely with the BBC World Service Trust in Bangladesh, conducting user testing on learning and design approaches in both the capital Dhaka and rural villages. BBC Janala builds upon our growing portfolio of creative design led e-learning approaches for developing world countries.

It's a WildLife…

Our new youth website for Wildlife Watch - the junior branch of The Wildlife Trusts is now live. The site is designed to increase youth membership and ensure existing young members form a stronger relationship with the Wildlife Watch brand.

Although the site contains many online-specific activities for young people to enjoy, it is designed to be as connected to the real world of wildlife as possible. For example users can create their own "Wildlife Spotting Sheets", which they can use in real-world wildlife environments such as one of The Wildlife Trust's 2,256 nature reserves around the UK. This connection with the real-world is also present in an online directory of the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts' local groups, each of whom have their own profile page on the Wildlife Watch site.

1-2-1 Rolls Out as Secure Webspace for Families

We are looking for new Local Authority partners to aid the national roll out of our new private, moderated 1-2-1 web space.

The 1-2-1 Space allows children and young people to communicate with their parents, families, relatives and carers securely and privately online. Developed by us with funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families, 1-2-1 is part of the Parent Know How Programme.

The service is designed for families where face to face contact is either limited or difficult. But it's different from other social media spaces like Facebook, MySpace and Bebo because two users connect on a totally private basis.

1-2-1 has been successfully used for the past 12 months by the charity Respect, with more than 35 families being referred to it via Cafcass and other children's services. Now we'd like to white label the service to Local Authority Social Services teams, Education & Children's Services.

Visit the 121 space or email info@the121space.com for further information on how it works.

LSIS Launches Brain Games

Brain Games is a new resource that we have created for LSIS to support learners in achieving the National Literacy and Numeracy tests. It was launched at the recent LSIS Skills for Life conference and it will shortly be available in a form that can be downloaded onto a memory stick so it can be used in outreach situations where there is a computer but no internet access.
